- When Marseille last won a trophy, Nicolas Sarkozy was the President of France. Current President Emmanuel Macron was then a 34-year-old investment banker at Rothschild & Cie Banque.
- Of the 14 Marseille players that played the final, only Steve Mandanda remains at the club.
- Since winning the French League Cup in April 2012, Marseille took part in 34 domestic or international competitions, not winning a single one. The drought includes defeats in French Cup (2015-16) and Europa League (2017-18) finals.
- Manager Didier Deschamps left Marseille 11 weeks after the 2012 League Cup final. In total Deschamps spent three seasons as manager of Olympique de Marseille, winning six trophies (one League title, two Supercups, three League Cups). On 8 July 2012, he was appointed as head coach of the France national team. Deschamps lead France to the finals of Euro 2016 (defeat against Portugal, 0-1) and 2018 FIFA World Cup (win against Croatia, 4-2).
- The 2012 French League Cup was César Azpilicueta's last trophy with the Marseille shirt. Since leaving France four months later in the summer 2012, Azpilicueta has won nine major trophies with Chelsea.
- Rival PSG has so far amassed 27 domestic trophies since Marseille's win in the 2012 French League Cup final.
