- When Marseille last won a trophy, Nicolas Sarkozy was the President of France. Current President Emmanuel Macron was then a 34-year-old investment banker at Rothschild & Cie Banque.
- None of the 14 Marseille players that played the final remain at the club.
- Since winning the French League Cup in April 2012, Marseille took part in 42 domestic or international competitions, not winning a single one. The drought includes defeats in French Cup (2015-16) and Europa League (2017-18) finals.
- Manager Didier Deschamps left Marseille 11 weeks after the 2012 League Cup final. In total Deschamps spent three seasons as manager of Olympique de Marseille, winning six trophies (one League title, two Supercups, three League Cups). On 8 July 2012, he was appointed as head coach of the France national team. Deschamps lead France to the final of Euro 2016 (defeat against Portugal, 0-1) and the World Cups in 2018 (win against Croatia, 4-2) and 2022 (defeat against Argentina, 3-3, 2-4 pens).
- The 2012 French League Cup was César Azpilicueta's last trophy with the Marseille shirt. The Spanish international left France four months later and stayed 11 seasons at Chelsea winning nine major trophies.
- Bitter rivals PSG have so far amassed 32 domestic trophies since Marseille's win in the 2012 French League Cup final.
